What the Heck is Orthopedic Massage Anyway?
Most people in Sacramento have no idea what orthopedic massage therapy is. They hear the words “massage therapy” and think of wellness massages or day spas. Then they hear “orthopedic,” and think of sports massage, deep tissue massage, or some form of painful treatments.
In reality, orthopedic massage therapy is a specialty that identifies and corrects problems in people’s bodies. The literal definition of orthopedic is to straighten or correct, and that is what orthopedic massage therapy does.
Orthopedic massage therapy requires a lot of data. Our therapists do a lot of assessments, they evaluate their patients and ask questions to help discover the best treatment plan. They also often collaborate with other health care providers to gain as much information as they can to ensure their treatment plan is the best course of action for the patient.
Orthopedic massage therapists have a vast array of tools in their toolbelts so they can pick and choose the best treatments for each person. Many patients of orthopedic massage have old injuries that never properly healed, have repetitive strain injuries, or experience mystery pain.
Here at Body Fix Therapies, we are a hub for unanswered questions. Our therapists are equipped with a wide range of modalities to dig deeper into these questions and help find solutions for our patients. Orthopedic massage therapy should, in general, be very relaxing but it’s not specifically designed to be a relaxing spa massage, its purpose is to correct or fix a problem.
