Master Orthopedic Massage Therapist
Kym is a Somatic Therapist with over 28 years of clinical experience. She graduated from the Northwest School of Massage in Seattle, Washington in 1996 and immediately began working in medical massage therapy, treating auto accident injuries and collaborating closely with physicians addressing soft-tissue dysfunction.
Practicing in Washington State—where massage therapists are more deeply integrated into the medical system and often covered by health insurance—gave Kym the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with a wide range of healthcare providers. This collaborative environment allowed her to learn extensively from other disciplines and apply that knowledge directly to enhance patient outcomes in her own practice. (Sadly, California has not quite reached that level of integration yet.)
Kym is deeply fascinated by how the body functions and is continually learning, researching, and refining her work to better serve her patients. Somatic Therapist best describes the type of bodywork she practices. Somatic therapy is a holistic approach that emphasizes the connection between the mind and body, based on the understanding that physical sensations and experiences are closely linked to emotional and psychological well-being.
This therapeutic approach helps individuals develop greater awareness of bodily sensations in order to process and release long-standing holding patterns within tissues, posture, and movement. Kym’s work often involves comprehensive assessment techniques and an in-depth exploration of a client’s history and lived experience, allowing her to identify underlying causes of dysfunction and create highly individualized treatment plans.
Her unique bodywork integrates elements of Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Release Therapy, Somatic Emotional Release Therapy, and other complementary modalities. Through decades of hands-on practice, Kym has developed highly refined sensory awareness, enabling her to perceive subtle signals within the body. This sensitivity allows her to skillfully apply principles of mechanotransduction and bio-tensegrity to support healing. Her work is typically very gentle and effective for both acute and chronic conditions.
Kym believes that true healing comes from identifying and addressing the root cause of dysfunction rather than simply treating symptoms. She takes a big-picture approach, informed by her years of experience, ongoing education, and collaboration with other healthcare providers.
She recognizes that pain and dysfunction are often influenced by multiple factors—including nutrition, stress, environment, and underlying physiological conditions. Addressing these components is essential not only for pain relief, but for helping patients live healthier, happier, and more productive lives. Some aspects of care are addressed at Body Fix, while others may involve referrals to trusted practitioners. Kym values a team-based approach and enjoys collaborating with both patients and other providers to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
